Solving rubiks cube in lockdown

My Dad is good at solving rubiks cubes. Sometime I mix the rubiks cubes really well but he can still figure it out. I really want to solve it too.
Rubik cubes can come in different sizes. We have a 2x2 3x3 4x4  and a dodecahedron one.
I want to learn how to solve 2x2 because my Dad says it is easier and faster.
There are people who are speed cubers and they go into competitions. We like watching them on Youtube. They can solve it in a few seconds. Even children can go into the competition.
I don't think I can solve it that fast but I still like it. Can you solve it?

  1. I can't solve it. It's too hard for me to remember the algorithms.

  2. Hi Charlie, I like the way you asked us a question. I'd love to have a go but I don't think anyone in my bubble has a cube. I wonder what other challenges you could do with different colours and shapes?

  3. Hi Charlie,
I found out lots about rubik's cubes from reading your post. Before reading this, and listening to you share your information in our online meeting yesterday, I thought that there was only one size! Using the word algorithms in your post reminds me about following a process, like we did in coding club. Do you think that one day you would like to enter a competition if you work hard at solving these?
    Thanks for sharing.

  4. Hello Charlie, thanks for sharing your Rubik's Cube activities with us. To answer your question, I was never able to solve Rubik's Cubes when I was younger, we had the 3x3 version, but it was too difficult - especially when my older brothers mixed it up for me! I used to become very frustrated. It's a really good brain teaser, so keep practising and I'm sure you'll get faster. What other games have you been playing during the lock down time at home?
It has been great to see you in the online meetings this week, have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you on Monday!

  5. Kia ora Charlie,
Those Rubik's Cubes look so cool! I like the one on the right in the picture on the left. It's really colourful. It's great how you ended your blog post with a question. My answer is 'NO, I can't solve a Rubik's Cube'.My brother used to LOVE Rubik's Cubes. He'd watch videos that showed him how to solve it. He was so obsessed with it that it looked like it was his favourite toy! Nowwer days, he hardly even thinks about it.

Awesome blogpost, Charlie. I hope to hear more of your blog posts. Keep up the fantastic work on your blog.
    Blog you later!!!

  6. Hi Charlie, I'm impressed that you can solve a rubik's Cube. I have never managed to complete one, so you are far more skilled than I am, in that way. The dodecahedron cube looks very challenging! How often do you do rubik's cubes? It doesn't matter if you aren't fast at completing a cube. You are sticking at it and enjoying it. That's most important.
Now term two has started you have lots of work that your teachers have put online. It would be great if you could do some blog posts of your term two learning.
Stay safe and well in your bubble and we will see you when we are all back at school.

  7. Hi Charlie, I really like what you blogged about because I like Rubik's cubes too but I can only solve one side in a 3x3 cube. Maybe in another blog about this, you could teach me how to solve them. And here is my link to my blog if you want to look at it. https://wpsmarcust.blogspot.com/2020/08/basketball-zone-in-trust-arena.html#comment-form.
